Man City Dismantle Liverpool as Doku and Haaland Shine
Manchester City reignited their English Premier League (EPL) title charge with a dazzling 3-0 victory over Liverpool at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England.
The performance on Sunday, 9 November, was perfectly timed to mark Pep Guardiola’s 1 000th game in management.
Erling Haaland opened the scoring 29 minutes into the match with a looping header after seeing his earlier penalty saved, before Nico Gonzalez’s deflected strike doubled City’s lead on the stroke of half-time.
The standout moment came from Jeremy Doku at the 63rd-minute mark, who capped a breathtaking display with a curling finish to seal the win against the Reds. The 23-year-old Belgian winger tormented Liverpool’s defence throughout, leaving Conor Bradley and Ibrahima Konate exposed.
Guardiola praised his star man, saying: “Do you think I teach him how to dribble openings? This is natural talent.”
While City moved within four points of EPL table leaders Arsenal, who have 26 points, Liverpool’s title hopes took a serious dent after a fourth consecutive away defeat.
Ruben Dias marshalled a faultless defence that kept the visitors scoreless for the first time in 14 months, underscoring City’s dominance. As Arsenal faltered to a 2-2 draw with Sunderland the night before, Guardiola’s champions have made their intentions clear: they are back in the hunt.
