Man City Claim FA Cup Final Victory

June 05, 2023

A treble victory is almost close enough to touch for Manchester City, who are gearing up to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final on Saturday, 10 June.

The Citizens claimed a 2-1 win over Manchester United in the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) final at Wembley Stadium in London, England on Saturday, 3 June, to cement an excellent 2022/2023 season.

City midfielder, Ilkay Gündoğan, set a new record for the quickest goal in an FA Cup final by scoring the first point of the match just twelve seconds after kick-off, with an assist from his teammate, Kevin De Bruyne.

Man United earned a consolatory point with a penalty kick at the 33-minute mark by midfielder Bruno Fernandes, however it wasn’t enough to make it through a vicious second half.

Gündoğan claimed the second point for Man City in the 51st minute, once again assisted by some quick footwork from De Bruyne.

“We have done incredible, five [English] Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and Carabaos but we have to win the Champions League to be recognised [as] how the team deserves to be. It has been amazing, been fun, but we have to win it,” City manager, Pep Guardiola, told the media during the post-match conference.
