“Lucky” Chelsea Clinch 2-1 Victory over Cardiff City
Chelsea coach, Maurizio Sarri, admitted that his side were “lucky” after they managed to secure a 2-1 victory over Cardiff City on Sunday, 31 March.
Fans at Cardiff City Stadium were quick to boo the beleaguered Blues coach following a goalless first half, during which Cardiff prevented their opponents from capitalising on their dominant possession of the ball.
By the second half – which saw Cardiff player, Victor Camarasa, score a goal – fans aired their frustrations further by chanting “We want Sarri out”.
However, Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta headed what appeared to be an offside equaliser in the 84th minute. Before long, team-mate Ruben Loftus-Cheek brought home the victory by clinching a second goal in the first of seven added minutes.
In a post-match interview, Sarri conceded: “Probably today we were lucky, but sometimes we need to be lucky.”
As for Azpilicueta’s allegedly offside goal, Sarri added: “I don’t know, I didn’t see the situation. The corner was too far from the bench, and I am not sure about the offside.”
Regardless, Chelsea’s win has now put them level on points with fifth-placed Arsenal on the Premier League log.
