Louis Van Gaal Confirms Retirement
Former Netherlands and Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has confirmed his retirement from coaching to Dutch newspaper, De Telegraaf.
The 65-year-old Van Gaal most recently had a spell as the head of English Premier League club, Manchester United, before being replaced by current manager, Jose Mourinho.
Before taking the helm at Manchester United, Van Gaal had a successful career as both a club manager and international manager. He was the manager of the Netherlands national soccer team back in 2000 for two years, and again in 2012.
His turn as manager of the Netherlands was more successful the second time around, when the team placed third in the 2014 Soccer World Cup in Brazil.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Van Gaal said that after he was sacked by United in May of last year, he initially thought that he would only take a few months off before stepping into the coaching ring again, but has since decided that he will not return to coaching.
“…I thought maybe I would stop, then I thought it would be a sabbatical, but now I do not think I will return to coaching,” he said.
Van Gaal’s last big win was with Manchester United last season, when they won the FA Cup.
