
Liverpool’s Sturridge Charged with Breaching Betting Rules
Liverpool striker, Daniel Sturridge, has been charged by the Football Association (FA) with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of its betting rules.
According to the FA, 12 November, the 29-year-old broke its rules, specifically Rules E8(1)(a)(ii) and E8(1)(b).
The first rule states that a participant “must not bet, either directly or indirectly, by instructing someone else to bet on any aspect of a football match or competition”.
The second rule prohibits the passing on of “inside” information about players, managers, team selection or disciplinary matters for betting purposes.
The governing body added that the allegations related to events that took place in January this year.
According to a Liverpool spokesperson, Sturridge has “never gambled on football”, and that he has “given his full and unequivocal co-operation throughout this process, and has assured the club he will continue to do so.”
Sturridge has until 18:00 on Tuesday, 20 November, to respond to the charge.
