Liverpool’s Clyne Sidelined for Six Months

July 25, 2019

Liverpool are facing a huge setback, after defender Nathaniel Clyne tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the club’s pre-season tour of the United States of America.

The 28-year-old Englishman sustained the injury during a match against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, 20 July.

The Reds went on to lose 3-2 to their German opponents.

Coach Jurgen Klopp confirmed the injury news in a recent interview with the club’s official website.

He explained: “Clearly an injury of this nature isn’t a happy moment for any player, but the silver lining for [Clyne] is that, according to the medical guys, it’s a straightforward ACL injury. This means fixing it, and coming back from it should follow a path that is free from pitfalls and complications.”

Regarding his recovery time, Klopp reckons that Clyne will be out of action for six months.

The defender’s injury comes after Reds winger, Xherdan Shaqiri, suffered a calf-related injury during the UEFA Nations League clash between Switzerland and England last month.
