Liverpool Youngsters Humiliate Everton Starting VI

Liverpool youths embarrassed and knocked Everton out of the FA Cup during the Merseyside derby on Sunday, 5 January, at Anfield Stadium.

Hit by injuries that left him with only 12 senior players, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, made nine changes to his side, giving starts to three teenagers; Curtis Jones (18), Neco Williams (18) and Harvey Elliott (16).

The entire team was made up of Liverpool’s reserves and did not even include the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Alisson, or Roberto Firmino.

In contrast, Everton manager, Carlo Ancelotti, fielded his strong first team, wanting to secure their first win at Anfield since 1999.

However, Klopp’s youth academy graduates disgraced Everton and sealed a 1 – 0 win, thanks to a stunning strike from 18-year-old, Curtis Jones. What a nightmare – it was men against boys, but the boys won.

Jones became the youngest scorer in a Merseyside derby since Robbie Fowler in the 1990s, earning praise from Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana.

In a post-match interview, Klopp expressed his appreciation. He said: “They played brave football. Unbelievable individual performances from the kids. It was a sensational game and a sensational goal from a Scouser – who could ask for more?”
