Liverpool Tighten Grip on EPL Title Race
Liverpool have taken a commanding lead in the English Premier League (EPL) title race after a decisive 2-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday, 23 February.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai secured a crucial win at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, extending their advantage to 11 points at the top of the table.
Manager Arne Slot acknowledged Liverpool’s strong position but remained cautious, pointing out that second-placed Arsenal have a game in hand and that challenging fixtures lie ahead.
“I’ve said many times it’s so hard to judge the league table before every game is played,” he said during the post-match interview. “We are in a good position, but we also know how hard it was for us to win against Wolves.”.
Salah’s influence has been pivotal, with 30 goals and 21 assists this season. The 32-year-old Egyptian forward expressed his hunger for more success, highlighting the importance of guiding younger players alongside winning trophies.
For City, the defeat effectively ends their title hopes, leaving them 20 points adrift. Manager Pep Guardiola stated that he was optimistic about the club’s future, but later admitted that a rebuilding may be necessary.
With Liverpool firmly in control, the title is now theirs to lose. However, Slot is keeping his squad grounded, knowing that in the EPL, nothing is guaranteed until the final whistle blows.
