Liverpool Smash Transfer Record to Land Isak

September 01, 2025

Liverpool have completed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record £125-million deal, rising to £130 million with add-ons.

The 25-year-old Sweden striker will undergo a medical on Monday, 1 September, before inking a contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2031.

The move ends weeks of speculation, with Isak having pushed for the transfer after Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s initial £110-million offer in August. He was sidelined during the opening weeks of the 2025/26 English Premier League season and accused the Magpies of “broken promises”, though the club denied making any assurances about his departure.

Newcastle’s £69-million acquisition of Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart paved the way for negotiations to accelerate. Isak, who struck 27 goals last season, leaves Tyneside after two years in which he helped deliver a Carabao Cup and Champions League qualification.

Liverpool’s mid-year transfer window outlay now exceeds £400 million following earlier moves for Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. The club are also in talks for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

Pundit Gary Neville recently called Isak “one of the top centre-forwards in the world,” adding: “He’s a different level player.” Liverpool will hope that quality helps spearhead a new era under Arne Slot.
