Liverpool Slip at Fulham But Remain Title Favourites

Liverpool’s English Premier League (EPL) title march hit a rare bump as they fell 3-2 to Fulham on Sunday, 6 April, ending a 26-game unbeaten run.

Despite taking the lead through Alexis Mac Allister’s brilliant early first half strike, defensive errors in a chaotic 14-minute spell allowed the hosts to turn the tide before the break at Craven Cottage in London, England.

Ryan Sessegnon, Alex Iwobi, and Rodrigo Muniz capitalised on the Reds’ uncharacteristically fragile backline, with Virgil van Dijk and Andrew Robertson both culpable. A late rally saw Luis Diaz narrow the deficit, but the visitors couldn’t find a leveller despite further chances.

Reds manager, Arne Slot, admitted avoidable mistakes undid his side, but praised their previous form, saying: “That is not what we usually see and that is probably why we are where we are, because if you make these mistakes more often in this league, you would not have the amount of points we have.”

However, Fulham’s sharp pressing and clinical finishing told a different story: this was less a collapse and more a showcase of the EPL’s competitive depth. Liverpool remain 11 points clear at the top of the log – needing just 11 more points to secure the crown – and they have seven matches left to play.

This defeat may sting, but it underlines a key truth: winning in the EPL is never easy or guaranteed, even for champions-elect.
