Liverpool Rejects Barcelona Bid for Coutinho
English Premier League club, Liverpool, have rejected an offer from La Liga giants, Barcelona, for the services of midfielder, Philippe Coutinho.
This is the second bid for Coutinho from Barcelona that The Reds have rejected. The Spanish club put in a bid for Coutinho in July for £72 million, but it was rejected by Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.
According to Sky News, Barcelona have tried their luck once more, increasing their offer for the Brazilian international to £76.8 million up front, as well as £13.6 million in add-ons.
Sources in the know say that Liverpool again rejected the offer, and reiterated their stance that Coutinho is not for sale.
According to those sources, Klopp and Liverpool management now “consider the matter closed”.
Barcelona is on the lookout for a star forward, after their record-breaking sale of fellow Brazilian superstar, Neymar, to Paris Saint-Germain last week.
However, Coutinho is clearly not the man to replace Neymar, as the 25-year-old signed a new five-year contract with The Reds in January, and they are not selling him.
Coutinho is an integral part of Liverpool’s core squad. After joining the club in 2013 from Inter Milan, Coutinho has made 182 appearances for the club, and has scored 42 goals.
