Liverpool Loses Lengthy Lucky Streak

March 02, 2020

Liverpool were left red-faced after their winning streak came to an end in an incredible 3-0 loss to Watford at Vicarage Road Stadium on Saturday evening, 29 February.

The Reds were unbeaten for 44 games before a brave Hornets team scored three goals without response, ending Liverpool’s hopes of beating Arsenal’s 49-game unbeaten run during the 2003-04 season.

After a goalless first half, Watford forward, Ismaila Sarr, opened scoring in the 54th minute. He doubled his goal tally when he struck again six minutes later. His teammate, Troy Deeney, joined in with a goal of his own in the 72nd minute, giving the home team a winning lead.

Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, was understandably stunned after the game, saying: “You break records because you are 100 percent focused on each step you have to do, whatever record it is – a marathon or whatever – and for that you have to perform.”

The loss is inconsequential however, as the Reds are sitting comfortably at 22 points ahead of second-place Manchester City.
