Liverpool Keep Tabs on PSG Winger Wunderkind
Liverpool have turned their attention to Ibrahim Mbaye of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) as talks over his teammate Bradley Barcola reach a standstill.
New Reds coach Andoni Iraola has prioritised wide reinforcements following a 4-2 pre-season loss to Leeds United. While the 18-year-old PSG winger is keen on a move to Anfield, the Parisians have valued the Senegal international at €50 million. Liverpool face strong competition from Bayer Leverkusen, whose leadership has already opened direct club-to-club negotiations with PSG’s management.
Concurrently, Liverpool are exploring a double swoop for Barcola, having prepared a €100 million offer. However, negotiations remained stalled with PSG asking for €70 million more than what was put down. The French champions point to the 23-year-old forward’s strong FIFA World Cup performance and back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles to justify a fee exceeding recent high-profile English Premier League transfers.
Mbaye, represented by Jorge Mendes, has placed Liverpool first despite interest from Tottenham, Manchester City and several Bundesliga clubs. With PSG actively pursuing Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, Mbaye’s first-team path in Paris appears increasingly restricted.
Liverpool are assessing whether to launch a formal bid for Mbaye or wait for PSG’s stance on Barcola to soften as the transfer deadline approaches. Landing both wingers could also accelerate Cody Gakpo’s potential departure to Tottenham.
