Liverpool Hit Snag in Yan Diomande Move

February 12, 2026

Liverpool’s pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande has hit a deadlock due to a complex legal battle over image rights.

The 19-year-old winger, valued at €100 million, is considered the primary long-term successor to Mohamed Salah, who is widely expected to depart Anfield at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Diomande has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the Bundesliga, recording eight goals and six assists in just 21 appearances since his €20-million move from Leganes last year.

While the Ivorian star has publicly expressed his dream of playing at Anfield, Liverpool cannot yet formalise a deal. Complications stem from a valid contract with Diomande’s former agency that runs until 2027; a deal signed prior to his recent switch to Roc Nation.

The Reds’ hierarchy is prepared to wait for a summer move rather than forcing a January transfer, allowing time for the legal situation to settle and for current high-profile signings like Florian Wirtz to fully integrate.

Despite interest from Manchester City and Arsenal, Liverpool reportedly remain the front-runners for the teenager, but time will tell when he is brought aboard.
