Liverpool and Everton Ready for Derby Showdown

September 19, 2025

The first Merseyside derby of the 2025/26 season takes place this Saturday, 20 September, with hosts Liverpool aiming to protect their flawless English Premier League (EPL) start and Everton eager to spoil the party.

Arne Slot’s team tops the EPL table with four wins from four games, though their victories have often come via late goals.

Fresh from a dramatic 3-2 Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid on Wednesday, 17 September, the Reds will look to carry their momentum into a fixture they have traditionally dominated.

Mohamed Salah remains one point short of equalling Steven Gerrard’s record of nine derby goals in the EPL.

David Moyes’ Everton have impressed early into the league, collecting seven points from two wins, and showing a renewed attacking threat with Jack Grealish at the heart of their creativity.

However, Moyes has never won a league game at Anfield Stadium in 20 attempts, making this a daunting challenge despite his team’s promising form.

History leans heavily in Liverpool’s favour, with 100 wins from 246 meetings, and a strong home record in the derby. Yet, Everton’s resilience and recent improvement suggest this match could be tighter than many expect.

With pride and points at stake, Anfield can expect another fiery chapter in this historic rivalry.
