Lionel Messi Suffers Another Injury
Lionel Messi made his first start this season yesterday, 24 Tuesday, after missing the pre-season and four matches due to a calf injury – but the Argentine didn’t last – he injured himself and was taken off at half-time during the 2-1 home win over Villarreal.
Messi took a blow on his left leg during the first half of the game and received a length on-pitch treatment and decided to power through until half-time.
The Barcelona captain was then replaced by Ousmane Dembele in what coach, Ernesto Valverde, insisted was just a precautionary measure.
Valverde said: “It happened when [Messi] suffered problems in his arm [last season], now he is suffering a small pain in the adductor muscle and we didn’t want to take risks.”
When asked if the Argentine will be fit for Saturday’s La Liga game against Getafe, Valverde responded: “We will see tomorrow [Wednesday, 25 September] but we won’t take any risks because he just recovered from an injury.”
Despite Messi’s injury woes, Barcelona won the game and climbed four places up the league table, taking off the pressure on Valverde, after a rocky start of the season.
