Legendary Heavy Metal Musician Ozzy Osbourne Dies at 76
Ozzy Osbourne, the frontman of pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath, has died at the age of 76.
A statement was released via social media on Tuesday, 22 July, announcing that the self-styled “Prince of Darkness” had passed away earlier that day.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love,” the statement reads, while requesting privacy for his loved ones.
The sombre news arrives just weeks after Osbourne appeared at a benefit concert, “Back to the Beginning”, that saw the original line-up of Black Sabbath playing live for the first time in two decades. Osbourne himself performed on a black, bat-adorned throne for the duration of the show due to his declining health, which has worsened since being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2005.
Tributes and kind words have poured in from fans and friends across the globe to venerate the “Godfather of Heavy Metal”, who helped usher in a genre of music that has inspired countless bands.
Osbourne is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their three children: Jack, Aimee and Kelly. His greatest contribution is an indelible and inimitable legacy that will endure and encourage current and future generations to embrace authenticity.
