Lauryn Hill Denies Stealing Songs

August 29, 2018

Singer-rapper Lauryn Hill has hit back at claims that she plagiarised songs for a previous album.

Earlier this month, jazz pianist Robert Glasper gave a radio interview, in which he accused Hill of stealing songs for her Grammy-winning 1998 album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill”.

According to Glasper, these songs were apparently written by “great” musicians and producers who he knows personally, and who never received credit for their contributions.

In a lengthy 3000-word essay that she penned for an online media outlet, Hill responded to Glasper directly: “Most people are probably just hearing your name for the first time because you dropped MINE in an interview, controversially. Taking nothing away from your talent, but this is a fact.

She added: “You may be able to make suggestions, but you can’t write FOR me. I am the architect of my creative expression. No decisions are made without me.”
