November 27, 2014

South Africa’s Late Night News with Loyiso Gola (LNN) received a nomination for best comedy in the 42nd International Emmy Awards, which took place in New York on November 24.

While the show didn’t win, SA production company, Diprente, made history at the awards when the popular series Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola (LNN) – co-created by Gola, Kagiso Lediga and Tamsin Andersson – was nominated in the Best Comedy category for the second time running. In 2013, the show was nominated in the same category.

The International Emmy® Awards were established by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to recognise excellence in television produced outside of the United States.

Co-founder of Diprente and director of LNN Kagiso Lediga told BizNews.com: “We’re beyond excited to have been nominated, it’s a huge thumbs up for our industry, showing that South African talent is on par with what’s on offer in the rest of the world.” He was speaking from New York, where he and the LNN team attended the awards.

Now in its fourth year, LNN has been at the forefront of local comedy and features some of South Africa’s top comedians and writers. Diprente productions has produced other popular shows including the likes of Blitz Patrollie, branded entertainment such as the soccer world cup focused Dave’s Big Break and insurance edutainment series Next of Next Week.
