Kristen Bell Criticised Over ‘Tone-Deaf’ Anniversary Post
Kristen Bell has sparked backlash after marking her 12th wedding anniversary to husband Dax Shepard with a controversial Instagram post.
On Saturday, 18 October, the 45-year-old actress shared a photo of the couple embracing on their bed, captioned: “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivised to kill you, I never would.’”
The message was swiftly condemned as “tone-deaf” and “insensitive”, with many pointing out that October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
One follower commented: “Please don’t joke about domestic violence.”
Another added: “That did not land the way you thought it would.”
Some fans, however, defended the couple’s trademark dark humour, insisting it was merely a private joke.
The “Good Place” star and the 50-year-old comedian – who married in a low-key ceremony in 2013 – share two daughters: 12-year-old Lincoln and 10-year-old Delta.
Following the persistent online criticism, Bell has since limited comments on the post.
