Kompany Clinches Crucial 1-0 Victory for Man City
Manchester City are back on top of the English Premier League table, after skipper Vincent Kompany’s stunning strike helped the club to secure a vital 1-0 win against Leicester City on Monday, 6 May.
The Citizens had their hands full against Leicester, who put on a strong display of defence in the first half.
Sergio Aguera almost gave his team the lead with a header into the corner, only for the ball to rebound off the post. Leiceister’s goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel, then cleared it off the goal-line.
It was in the 70th minute of the match that Kompany unleashed a powerful, right-footed drive from 28 metres into the top corner of the box, thus earning his club the victory.
Man City boss, Pep Guardiola, praised the Belgian star: “When [Kompany] is fit, he is an incredible central defender. He is beloved, he is a leader. I’m happy for him, for the club, for everybody.”
Sitting at the top of the rankings with 95 points, Guardiola’s men stand a chance to become the Premier League champions if they beat Brighton this Sunday, 12 May, in their final league game.
