Klopp Urges Liverpool To Stay in EPL Top Four Race
Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp, has urged his players to keep their head in the game and focus on claiming a top four spot in the English Premier League, despite Chelsea being declared as EPL winners on Friday night.
Liverpool is currently third on the log, but stand the risk being overthrown by Arsenal, should they let the ball drop.
However, Klopp believes this is unlikely and that his team will be able to stand the pressure of holding on to a top four spot.
The top four spots in the EPL are coveted spots as this is an automatic qualification for the Champions League.
Liverpool had a stunning performance against West Ham on Sunday, beating them 4-0.
After the game on Sunday, Klopp said that while a top four spot is still in their grasp, he has urged his players to keep pushing.
“Part of our life is to handle pressure, to ignore the bad part of pressure and to use the good part of pressure…We drew in the last game with Southampton, we didn’t score with a penalty and maybe people say then: ‘They can’t deal with pressure’…I thought we saw really a convincing performance [against West Ham] with no doubts about anything [sic],” he said.
He continued, saying that his players are aware that they have to pull off another game like the one against West Ham.
“The first sentence the players said in the dressing room was: ‘One more time. One more game [sic],” he said.
Liverpool now have two ways of securing a top four finish. If Arsenal drop points against Sunderland during their match on Tuesday, Liverpool will make it onto the top four.
However, should Arsenal win, Liverpool have another avenue of making it to the top four; by beating relegated Middlesbrough on Sunday.
