Klopp at Odds with VAR After Man United 1-1 Draw
Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp was left seeing red after his team drew 1-1 with Manchester United on Sunday, 20 October, and aimed his frustration at the the video assistant referee (VAR).
Klopp was peeved with the decision that the VAR had reached regarding what he considered was a “clear foul” on Divock Origi in the lead up to United’s goal in the first half.
Premier League rules state that the VAR may overturn a referee’s decision, but only where a clear and obvious error is made.
The 52-year-old Reds’ coach said: “The referee let the game run because he has VAR, but the VAR says then it was not clear… This makes not too much sense [sic]. It is a clear VAR issue in how we deal with it in the moment. ”
Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer disagreed with his Liverpool counterpart, saying: “I think the referee did well. He let it become a proper football game with tackles. He wasn’t one of those tippy-tappy, stop-the-game referees.”
Sunday’s result put an end to Klopp’s current season unbeaten streak, fueling the notion that he was bitter over the draw tarnishing his golden run.
