Kanye West Sets Up College Fund for George Floyd’s Daughter
Kanye West has launched a college fund for the young daughter of a slain African American man.
On 25 May, George Floyd – a 46-year-old restaurant worker from Minneapolis, Minnesota – died after he was pinned to the ground by three police officers, while a fourth officer knelt on his neck for over eight minutes.
He is survived by his partner, Roxie Washington, and their six-year-old daughter, Gianna.
On Thursday, 4 June, West’s representative told a US media outlet that the “Fade” hitmaker has set up a 529 college-savings plan for Gianna, which will allow him to fully cover her tuition when she starts attending a tertiary education institution.
In addition, the 42-year-old rapper is planning to donate $2 million to the families and legal teams of Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.
Arbery was allegedly shot and killed on 23 February in Brunswick, Georgia, by two white men who claimed he was a burglary suspect. Taylor was allegedly killed on 13 March at her home in Louisville, Kentucky, by three police officers in a botched raid.
