Kanye West Blames Undiagnosed Brain Injury For Behaviour
Kanye West has issued a public apology in a full-page international publication advertisement, attributing years of antisemitic and erratic actions to a long-neglected medical condition on Monday, 26 January.
The 48-year-old rapper, legally known as Ye, claims a 2002 car crash caused undiagnosed damage to his right frontal lobe, which he says was only identified in 2023.
In his letter, titled “To Those I’ve Hurt”, West describes his behaviour as a consequence of Bipolar 1 disorder, leading to “disconnected moments” and “an out-of-body experience”. Denying he is a Nazi, he stated: “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.”
The apology follows a series of high-profile scandals, including the release of the banned track “Heil Hitler” and his dismissal from major corporate partnerships. West also apologised to the Black community for letting them down.
While West claims he is now committed to “accountability, treatment, and meaningful change”, the Campaign Against Antisemitism remains sceptical.
A spokesperson remarked: “It’s hard to keep up with Kanye West’s apologies and relapses. A heartfelt apology is nice, but at the end of the day it’s meaningless if it’s followed by more of the same”.
