Joel Luphahla Retires

December 06, 2015

Legendary Zimbabwean soccer star, Joel Luphahla, has announced his retirement from the sport.

Luphahla, who was part if the Zimbabwean national football team, the Warriors, played an immense part in Zimbabwean soccer and also made a few international appearances in both South Africa and Cyprus.

He was a dedicated winger for the Warriors and, most recently, was seen as a star striker for Tsholotsho Football Club, whom he helped survive relegation from the Castle Premiership this year.

His team managed a 1-1 draw against Harare City in their final game of the season.

After the draw, he expressed his fondness of his team and continued saying that he is immensely proud of his boys:

“…[sic] I am happy for the boys, they fought all the way. There is so much potential in the team and for us to have a second season in the PSL is not only good for football and the boys, but also for the people of Tsholotsho…I will continue to support them next season because I don’t think my legs can carry me anymore, there are young and capable players who can do the job for the team and they deserve a chance in the team,” Luphahla said.

He also thanked his team and managers:

“I would like to pay tribute to the team sponsor Mr Manyathela, players, technical team and our fans and every Tsholotsho person who saw this dream come true,” he said.
