Jesus and Touré Named in Man City Champions League Squad

February 03, 2017

Manchester City has made quite a few changes to their starting lineup for their upcoming Champions League games, most notably, one out-of-favour player, Yaya Touré, and new signing, Gabriel Jesus.

Manchester City are heading for the knockout stages of the Champions League – a title they have never won themselves.

Their next opponent in the top 16 will be Monaco, whom they face on Tuesday, 21 February.

Touré’s future at Manchester City did not look good at the start of the campaign, as a dispute between manager, Pep Guardiola, Touré and Touré’s agent resulted in the Ivorian being left out of any starting lineup for City.

However, the dispute was subsequently resolved, and Touré slowly made his way back into the team, and the starting lineup.

As for Jesus, the 19-year-old Brazilian international only recently joined City, but has already impressed by scoring his first goal in the English Premier League, during City’s 4-0 win over West Ham on Wednesday.

Jesus has said that he is happy to be with City, and that he has felt welcomed at the club.

“I’m very happy for the goal, very happy for the performance and especially for the win…This is the spirit I think we have to have and if we keep that spirit we will be able to achieve our goals…The reception from the club has been great, my team-mates are helping a lot and the process of adaptation is going great…I honestly thought it would be more difficult but thanks to my family, my friends and my team-mates it’s going really well,” Jesus said.
