Jennifer Lopez Sued for Posting Her Own Photo

April 23, 2020

Jenny from the Block is in trouble for posting a photo of herself on Instagram.

The news broke on Monday, 20 April, that photographer Steve Sands is suing Jennifer Lopez for $150 000 over copyright infringement concerning a photo she uploaded to the social media platform three years ago.

The photo in question was posted on 22 June 2017, and shows the 50-year-old songstress dressed as her character, Harlee, from her television show, “Shades of Blue”. The post received over 656 000 likes.

Per court documents, Sands is accusing Lopez and her production company, Nuyorican Productions, of not seeking permission to use the image in order to “promote their brand”, nor of providing compensation for its use.

The lawsuit sparked an outpouring of support for the “Let’s Get Loud” hitmaker from her fans.

One person wrote: “Imagine being sued for posting a picture of YOURSELF [sic].”

This isn’t the first time that J.Lo has found herself in legal crosshairs. She was sued in October last year – also for $150 000 – for posting a photo of her and partner, Alex Rodriguez, holding hands to her Instagram Story in 2017.
