Jean-Philippe Mateta Receives Maiden France Call-Up

October 09, 2025

Jean-Philippe Mateta has hinted at a possible move away from Crystal Palace as he eyes European glory after being selected for the senior French national football team.

Mateta joined Palace permanently from Mainz 05 in 2022 and rose to prominence during the 2023-24 season, during which he scored 16 English Premier League goals and was named the club’s Player of the Season.

His impressive form helped the Eagles win their first major honour, the Football Association Challenge Cup, by defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the final earlier this year.

The 28-year-old striker has scored 34 goals in 70 appearances since Oliver Glasner took over in February 2024, and now, he can expect to make his debut for Les Bleus sometime later this month.

In a recent interview with an international sports publication, Mateta shared his enthusiasm for the future: “Every ambitious player wants to reach that milestone. Especially when you arrive in the national team and around you, there are only players who play in the Champions League, who win the biggest trophies.”

Aston Villa, Leeds United and Newcastle are reportedly monitoring him ahead of the winter transfer window in February 2026, with Palace valuing their talisman at approximately £40 million.
