Jadon Sancho, Man U Part Ways
Manchester United have confirmed the departure of Jadon Sancho as a free agent, bringing an end to a disappointing five-year spell at Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old winger signed from Borussia Dortmund in 2021 for £73 million, arrived with enormous expectations after establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents in the Bundesliga. However, he struggled to replicate that form in England, scoring just 12 goals and providing six assists in 83 appearances.
United chose not to activate a one-year extension in Sancho’s contract, opting instead to cut ties and remove a significant wage burden. The club acknowledged his contribution in a brief statement on Wednesday, 10 June, wishing him well alongside departing teammates Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia.
Sancho’s time at United was marked by inconsistent performances, fitness concerns and a highly publicised fallout with former manager Erik ten Hag. Following a social media dispute in 2023, he was effectively exiled from the first team before spending loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa.
Former United striker Louis Saha described Sancho as the club’s most disappointing signing, citing the stark contrast between his Dortmund success and English Premier League struggles. A return to Dortmund now appears possible, with reports suggesting the German club are interested in offering him a third spell at Signal Iduna Park as he seeks to revive his career.
