Ivory Coast: Minister Bakayoko Tests Positive for Coronavirus
Ivory Coast’s Defense minister, Hamed Bakayoko, has tested positive for the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The 55-year-old politician announced the news via his Twitter account on Monday evening, 6 April.
In the two-tweet post, he said in French: “This Monday, April 06, 2020, I tested positive for COVID-19, following a sample taken on Sunday [5 April]. Although I show no signs of the disease, the doctor prescribed social isolation to which I immediately submitted.”
He added: “This is an opportunity for me to remind all of our fellow citizens that Coronavirus [sic] is a real disease that spreads quickly.”
Bakayoko also urged all Ivorians to take the appropriate cautionary measures to protect themselves.
The West African nation has recorded 323 cases of the virus, counting three deaths and 41 recoveries.
On Saturday, 4 April, the health ministry advised citizens to wear masks to contain the spread of COVID-19.
