Italy Ready to Face England in Semi-Final Showdown
All eyes are on Italy as they face off against England in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 semi-final tonight, Tuesday 22 July.
After beating Norway 2-1 in the quarter-final last week, the Azzurre will now go head-to-head with the reigning champions at the Stade de Genève in Geneva, Switzerland.
This marks the sixth clash between the two teams, with their most recent encounter taking place during the Women’s EURO 2009 group stage. The Lionesses have a strong record against Italy: five wins and one draw in their previous meetings.
Italian defender Martina Lenzini recently spoke to an international media outlet and reflected on her enthusiasm for the game, while also discussing the significance of her team’s progress in the tournament.
“It’s exciting because we are going to face the reigning champions,” Lenzini said. “Getting to the semi-finals for us is a result in itself, a bit unexpected in the eyes of others and by everyone around us, but we believed we could do this.
“We are always humble, but we were aware that we could get to this stage and have the chance to face a team of this calibre.”
