Is Pasuwa’s Job On The Line?
After the national football’s team, The Warrior’s devastating loss against Mali and Zambia in the 2016 CHAN tournament, rumours are doing the rounds that their coach, Kalisto Pasuwa’s job may be on the line.
The Warriors had a less than stellar performance in their campaign, having lost 1-0 to Zambia in their opening match last Tuesday and then losing 1 – 0 again to Mali on Saturday.
Zimbabwe’s national football committee, Zifa, who is led by Phillip Chiyangwa, will apparently meet next month to discuss the future of Kalisto Pasuwa as the coach of the national side.
And if rumours are to be believed, this might be exactly what Chiyangwa wants as it is believed that Pasuwa and his management can not see eye-to-eye with Chiyangwa.
Edzai Kasinauyo, a Zifa board member and chairman of the High Performance Committee, has said that the board is planning on meeting at the end of the current CHAN tournament to review the performance by the national squad:
“…Like any in other assignee, we need to sit down and review the performance of the team. Perhaps, the problem (of losing) was with us or technical, so we need their report and we will also have our input and then map the way forward…For now, I cannot say much because we still have one more match to play,” he said.
As for Pasuwa, he had been sacked as national coach before, back in December, before he was then reinstated.
A Zifa board member had some choice words for Pasuwa on Sunday, highlighting Zifa (and more specifically Chiywanga’s) stance towards Pasuwa:
:…[sic] We were not convinced about his credentials as far as the senior national team was concerned in the past. If you look at it, the problems with the Warriors were more with the coach than the players when it came to concluding his deal even with the past board,” he said.
We will have to wait an see if Pasuwa will keep his job once the Warriors return.
