
Irrfan Khan Dies Aged 53
Beloved and acclaimed actor, Irrfan Khan, has passed away at the age of 53.
In March 2018, the Bollywood stalwart told fans that he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour, a type of cancer.
According to a statement from his representative, Khan – whose 95-year-old mother, Saeeda Begum, died over the weekend – passed away on Wednesday morning, 29 April, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, India.
Khan had been admitted to the hospital the day before due to a colon infection.
The statement reads: “[Khan] was a strong soul, someone who fought till [sic] the very end and always inspired everyone who came close to him.”
Khan starred in prolific Bollywood films over the years, including “Maqbool”, “The Lunchbox”, “Piku” and “Thank You”.
In Hollywood, he is well-known for his supporting roles in “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Slumdog Millionaire”, as well as the character of Adult Pi in the Oscar-nominated film, “Life of Pi”.
Khan is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sutapa Sikdar, and their two sons.
