India: 46 Soldiers Killed in Terror Attack

February 15, 2019

At least 46 soldiers have been killed after a suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into their vehicle in India’s Jammu and Kashmir state.

According to reports, the bomber – identified as Adil Ahmed, a member of the Pakistan-based jihadist group, Jaish-e-Mohammed, who claimed responsibility for the attack – was driving a car carrying over 100 kilograms of explosives in the Pulwama district on Thursday, 14 February.

Driving down the Srinagar-Jammu highway, Ahmed overtook a convoy carrying 2 500 Central Reserve Police Force personnel before ramming the car into one of the 78 vehicles.

Those who were injured in the attack were transported to the 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar located 20 kilometres away.

Federal Minister Arun Jaitley condemned the attack, saying that India will take “all possible diplomatic steps” to cut Pakistan off from the international community.

For decades, India and Pakistan have been at odds over Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region that both the neighbouring countries rule parts of. However, each country claims the entire territory as theirs.
