Idris Elba Fuels Next James Bond Rumours
British actor, Idris Elba, has fuelled speculation about whether he could finally be announced as the new James Bond.
For almost seven years, there have been rumours that Elba would succeed Daniel Craig and become the first black actor to portray the superspy.
Speculation recently began again last week when American film producer, Antoine Fuqua, revealed that Bond movie boss, Barbara Broccoli, had said “it is time” for a non-white actor to play agent 007.
This time, however, the man himself sparked the rumour by posting a selfie on Twitter, alongside the caption: “my name’s Elba, Idris Elba,” echoing the spy’s famous catchphrase “my name’s Bond, James Bond”.
Twitter exploded with fans excited about the news but were quickly shattered, when the 45-year-old Luther and Thor star posted another tweet saying: “Don’t believe the HYPE ….”
Daniel Craig hinted that he’ll play Bond for the fifth and last time in 2019, and Elba has expressed interesting in the role. Bond 26, which could potentially feature Elba, is expected to be released around 2022 or 2023.
