Hundreds of Tourists to Be Evacuated From Egyptian Hotel

August 24, 2018

A British travel company, Thomas Cook, is evacuating its customers from an Egyptian hotel today after two of them recently died there.

Susan and John Cooper from Burnley, Lancashire, were staying at the Steigenberger Aqua Magic Hotel in Hurghada, when Mr Cooper died after suffering a heart attack on Tuesday, 21 August 2018.

Mrs Cooper, who was a long-serving employee at a Thomas Cook branch, reportedly died “from grief” hours later.

In a written statement, the company said its decision to remove its 301 customers from the hotel is a “precautionary measure”.

They added that they “also received further reports of a raised level of illness among guests”.

There is reportedly speculation that Mr Cooper and his wife may have actually died due to a virulent illness or carbon monoxide poisoning at the hotel.

Thomas Cook has offered guests a chance to return home, or move to other hotels in the region. People booked to stay at the hotel next month will be offered alternative accommodation at no extra charge.
