Hugh Grant Dozes Off Behind Queen Camilla at Wimbledon
Hugh Grant went viral after appearing to nap during a tense quarter-final match at Wimbledon 2025 in London, England.
The 64-year-old actor, seated in the exclusive Royal Box alongside his wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein, was seen with his head slumped and sunglasses on as Novak Djokovic faced off against Italy’s Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday, 9 July.
The moment drew even more attention given that Grant was seated just behind Queen Camilla and her sister, Annabel Elliot.
Social media netizens were quick to react, with one Twitter/X user writing: “People have been queuing since 3am … and Hugh Grant slept through the tie break. Frankly, I think it is rude.”
Despite the apparent doze, other clips showed the “Heretic” star animated and chatting with the royals later in the match. Still, his sleepy spell was enough to spark a flurry of memes and jokes online, with an international publication’s X/Twitter account playfully posting several emojis alongside the caption: “It’s all got a bit too much for Hugh Grant.”
Djokovic ultimately defeated Cobolli in four sets and will now face world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semis. The match drew a star-studded crowd, including David Beckham, Olivia Rodrigo and Glen Powell.
Grant’s reps have not yet commented.
