Huge Expectations Await Viktor Gyokeres Following Move
Arsenal have finally secured the signing of Sporting CP star, Viktor Gyokeres, in a £64-million deal, including add-ons, after prolonged negotiations over payment terms.
The 27-year-old Swedish forward, who scored an astonishing 54 goals in 52 games during the last Primeira Liga season, becomes Mikel Arteta’s premium summer addition as the Gunners address their long-standing need for a top-notch number nine.
Speaking to a Swedish sports news outlet recently, former Arsenal midfielder Anders Limpar backed his compatriot to hit the ground running, boldly predicting a 25-goal debut season.
“He’s a goalscoring machine,” said Limpar, praising Gyokeres’ professionalism, athleticism and ability to grab chances. “With all the supply from the wings and [Martin] Odegaard, he’s going to score 25 goals.”
With Gabriel Jesus sidelined and Kai Havertz more at ease in midfield, Gyokeres’ pace and direct style could be a huge boost. Arteta’s side struggled with fast-break chances last season, which is where the Swede is primed to excel.
With a five-year contract sealed, Arsenal now await Gyokeres’ official arrival ahead of their pre-season tour of Asia.
