Heavy Rains Cause More Landslides in Uganda
Over the past two weeks, the heavy rains in certain parts of Africa has wrecked havoc on various communities, causing landslides and other disasters.
Last week, we reported on a six-story building that collapsed in Kenya, killing more than 10 people because of the heavy rains in that area.
Furthermore, just a couple of days ago, landslides killed close to 50 people in Rwanda.
And now it seems that the heavy rainstorms have caused further destructions as they have triggered more landslides in Uganda that have also taken the lives of approximately 15 people.
According to Ugandan authorities, approximately 15 people have been killed in landslides in the western area of the country and dozen more injured.
Officials also said that bridges had been washed away and more than 200 homes were destroyed by the landslides.
“…It is a major landslide, which has killed about 15 people as from the reports so far received and 50 others are undergoing treatment in hospital,” an official said.
The continued saying that the situation may well become worse if the rain continued to pour down:
“…If the rains do not stop the number of casualties are expected to go up,” the officials said.
