‘Hawkeye’ solo movie unlikely
Jeremy Renner may have scuppered hopes of a solo Hawkeye movie in a recent interview.
Renner, who has played the role of the Marvel character in the first Thor movie and later in The Avengers, admitted in an interview with MTV that Hawkeye is probably better used as a supporting character rather than a lead.
The actor has been vocal about how he was disappointed with the story arc of his character in the first Avengers, where he essentially played the villain for much of the movie, but it seems very likely he will have more to do in the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.
He also hinted that the character may make an appearance in Captain America 3.
"I’m happy to be the ensemble. I’m not scratching or clawing to do a solo movie by any means," Renner said. "I think he’s a utility guy that can bounce around into other people’s universes a little bit, especially like ‘Cap 3.’"
Renner will be keeping himself busy regardless of Hawkeye’s future with Mission: Impossible 5 due to come out after Age of Ultron next year and the untitled Jason Bourne Sequel for 2016.
He will next be seen in Kill the Messenger due to open later this year.
