Harvey Weinstein Handed 23-Year Prison Sentence

March 12, 2020

Disgraced Hollywood mogul, Harvey Weinstein, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison for his conviction on sexual assault and third-degree rape.

At least 80 women had accused the 67-year-old film producer of sexual misconduct going back decades, with six women testifying against him in court.

Last month, a 12-person jury in New York City Criminal Court found Weinstein guilty of committing third-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act involving two of his six accusers, Mimi Haley and Jessica Mann.

Appearing in court, a wheelchair-bound Weinstein was handed his 23-year sentence – one that is far longer than the five years requested by his defense lawyer, Donna Rotunno.

Several hours after receiving his sentence, the producer was reportedly taken to New York’s Bellevue Hospital with chest pains. Soon afterward, he underwent heart surgery.

Weinstein still faces charges in Los Angeles, California, of sexually assaulting two women in 2013. City officials are said to have started extradition proceedings.
