According to various reports around Harare, an elderly woman was mauled and eventually killed by a lion in Harare. Some reports are also suggesting that the woman was eaten by the lion.
According to reports the victim was identified as Sarah Tshuma who lived in the Woodlands area of the Victoria Falls district. The attack allegedly happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Apparently, Tshuma was attacked after she was sleeping outside with her cattle, trying to protect her cattle from lion attacks.
Local council official, Matthew Muleta, told reporters that lion attacks happens often in the village and that Tshuma did not notice a lioness sneaking up on her and cold not get away from the lioness fast enough:
“…[sic] What happened is that a pride of lions killed a cow and villagers, as [is] the norm here, teamed up to scare the lions away so that they recover the meat…Unbeknown to them… the oldest female lion of the pride was sneaking [up] on them,” he told reporters.
It is also believed that the lioness had since been killed by state game rangers.
