Harare City Beat Caps United In ZNA Charity Shield

March 07, 2016

It was a close call for two of Zimbabwe’s top soccer clubs as Harare City and Caps United battled each other to the bitter end in a nail-biting game on Saturday that resulted in Harare City making it through to the semi-finals of the ZNA Charity Shield.

The match – that was enthralling from the start – ended in a final score of 1 – 1 in regulation time, which of course meant that the two teams had to go to a penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.

And it was Harare City who had the best of luck as Chrispen Dickson, Tatenda Tumba, Raymond Uchena and James Jam all succeeded with their penalty kicks.

As for Caps United, Joel Ngodzo, Hardlife Zvirekwi and Ronald Pfumbidzai succeeded in their penalty attempts, but it was Dominic Chungwa and Leonard Tsipa who caused their team’s demise as they failed to get their penalty shots.

It was a close battle before the penalty shoot-out, though, as Caps United took the lead first when they scored in the 74th minute. However, Harare City fought back and a mere two-minutes from full time, Honey Chimutimunzeve scored a goal for City, taking them to a tie.

Mkuphali Masuku, assistant coach for Harare City, said that he is very proud of his team and that he was especially impressed with the new youngsters in the team:

“…Caps thought they had it in the bag after scoring that goal; you could see from the body language of the players but this is one thing we are instilling in our youngsters that it’s not over until it’s over. The idea was to give the youngsters like Tanaka and Tumba a chance in a proper game against Caps United and it worked,” he said.
