Hair Hacks: How to Keep Your Hair Healthy This Winter
Our winters are cold and dry which can wreak havoc on your skin and hair.
However, there are ways of preventing your skin, scalp and hair from drying out and leaving you looking dull.
These simple hair hacks are perfect for winter, and focus on rehydrating hair and skin that has been exposed to the harsh sun and cold temperatures.
Rehydrate From Root to Tip
Up your conditioning game during winter by focusing on moisturising your hair as well as your scalp.
You can invest in a salon-bought hair deep conditioning treatment, or you can go the natural way by making your own deep moisturising treatment.
If you decide on the homemade route, simply mix the following organic ingredients together:
1 cup cold pressed coconut oil
3 tablespoons of lemon juice
2 tablespoons of honey.
Warm the oil in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, or on the stove top, making sure not to overheat it. Then slowly mix in the other ingredients.
Once the mixture has cooled, apply it to your hair and leave it in for at least 30 minutes before rinsing out with lukewarm water. For an even deeper condition, you can leave the mixture in your hair overnight and rinse out in the morning.
Keep The Frizz At Bay
Another thing that winter brings along is frizzy, unmanageable hair.
To combat the frizz and prevent your hair from looking wild and unmanageable, make use of a vented hair brush that has both plastic and boar bristles when brushing your hair.
This will help manage the static in your hair and give your tresses a natural shine.
In addition to using the correct brush, make sure to wash your hair with lukewarm water rather than hot water. Hot water strips away the natural oils that protect and nourish your hair.
Hydrating Spray
Hydrating hairspray will be your BFF during winter.
A hydrating hairspray moisturises and protects your hair, throughout the day, from the harsh winter elements. Think of it as SPF for your hair.
Ideally, you should carry a travel-sized hydrating hairspray with you during winter, especially if you’re going to be outdoors.
You can buy hydrating hairsprays at salons, or you can make your own with natural ingredients.
To make your own, follow these easy steps.
Ingredients:
3 tablespoons coconut oil
4 drops peppermint essential oil
4 tablespoons Aloe Vera juice
1 cup water
Start by heating the coconut until it has melted and has liquified. Add the peppermint oil drops and mix well.
Then, add the Aloe Vera juice and water and mix. Decant into a spray bottle shake.
The coconut oil and Aloe Vera will moisturise your hair while the peppermint oil will refresh your hair and make it smell amazing.
