Haaland’s Winner Sends Man City Back into EPL Top Four
Manchester City moved up to fourth in the English Premier League (EPL) table with a narrow 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, courtesy of Erling Haaland’s early strike on Wednesday, 26 February.
The 24-year-old Norwegian forward, returning from injury, slotted home Jeremy Doku’s cross in the 12th minute to mark his 20th league goal of the season at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
City dominated the first half, displaying fluid attacking football, with Haaland and Savinho both spurning chances to extend their lead. Guglielmo Vicario kept Spurs in the game with key saves, while Doku posed a constant threat down the left.
After the break, Tottenham responded with greater urgency, pressing high and creating several opportunities. Wilson Odobert and Mathys Tel failed to convert, while Son Heung-min, introduced as a substitute, saw his effort denied by Ederson.
Late drama unfolded when Haaland thought he had scored again, but VAR ruled out his stoppage-time effort for handball. Spurs nearly capitalised, but Pape Sarr headed the ball over the net with their final chance of the match.
With the win, City climbed to 47 points on the EPL table, while also keeping their UEFA Champions League hopes alive, while Spurs remained in 13th place on 33 points, reflecting their inconsistent form.
