Grenade Found at Harare ATM
Panic erupted in Harare on Friday when a grenade was found in the central business district of the city.
A live hand grenade was found near an FBC Financial Holdings Automated Teller Machine along Leopold Takawira Street.
The grenade was discovered by a security guard that was patrolling the outside of the bank.
When police were alerted of the grenade, they cordoned off a large section of the area to inspect the grenade and remove it from the scene.
A police spokesperson then said that the grenade may have been placed there with the intention of criminally attacking the bank:
“A rusty hand-held grenade was discovered early today (Friday) near an FBC outlet. We are investigating the motive behind the discovered military hardware…[sic] It might have been a criminal intention related to the bank,” he said.
It is rather unusual as Zimbabwean robbers don’t usually use explosives, the police said.
