Government Denies Mugabe Illness
Since Monday evening, rumours have been doing the rounds that President Robert Mugabe has had a major health set-back and that he was in a critical condition.
The rumours started on social media and quickly spread to more traditional news outlets. It was alleged that the ‘health scare’ was concerning to a heart ailment and that he was currently receiving treatment in Dubai.
However, the Zimbabwean government has denied that Mugabe is seriously ill, or that he has had a health scare.
Mugabe is currently on his annual month-long vacation. The rumours about his health ailments most likely started because of the fact that he has previously had various treatments done in Asia.
Mugabe’s spokesperson, George Caramba, flatly denied that Mugabe was in any health danger and told reports that it was just a rumour upon their inquisition:
“…It is just a rumour, enjoy it. I don’t even want to talk about it, bye-bye,” he said.
In recent years, there have been an increase in rumours depicting the President as frail – especially considering the fact that he is 91-years old. However, the government has continued to insist that Mugabe’s health is excellent.
