Gerard Pique Reacts Angrily to Penalty
Defender Gerard Pique was left furious on Saturday, 31 August, after FC Barcelona and Osasuna drew 2-2, but was fuming specifically at the penalty which resulted in the game’s final score.
The 32-year-old Spaniard was penalised for handling the ball in the goal area within the final ten minutes, whilst his team, Barcelona, were ahead 2-1.
After the match, an incensed Pique reacted in the dressing room, lashing out at the awarding of the penalty.
He said: “The ball hit me in the hand. If it hadn’t hit me in the hand it would have been in my face. I’d like those who say it’s a penalty to jump and see where their arm goes. For me, it’s not a penalty. How many handballs happen every week that are not given?”
The Catalans were outclassed in the first half, but managed to come back from behind to take the lead, thanks to goals from second-half substitutes Ansu Fati and Arthur.
The draw is another setback for the champions, as they have yet to win an away game this season and have only one win from their first three games.
