Gaga, Mars and Lamar Dominate 2025 MTV VMA Nominations
The 2025 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) nominations were announced on Tuesday, 5 August, with Lady Gaga leading the race with an impressive 12 nods.
Hot on her heels are Bruno Mars, with 11 nominations, and Kendrick Lamar, with 10. Gaga and Mars’ hit collaboration, “Die With A Smile”, is a strong contender, earning recognition across major categories including Video, Song, and Collaboration of the Year.
Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande also feature prominently among the nominees, securing eight and seven nominations, respectively. Newcomers such as Alex Warren, Gigi Perez, Lola Young and The Marías are in the running for Best New Artist.
Despite not releasing new albums in the past year, Beyonce and Taylor Swift each received a single nomination for Artist of the Year, largely due to their record-breaking tours. Swift, who swept last year’s ceremony, remains the artist with the most solo VMA wins to date.
The 2025 VMAs introduce two new categories – Best Pop Artist and Best Country – highlighting shifts in genre popularity.
This year’s show will be broadcast live from the UBS Arena in New York City, New York, on 7 September. Fans can cast their votes across 19 gender-neutral categories via the official website until 5 September.
